Auto Intro 101: Essential Maintenance and Basic Repair

Want to learn the fundamentals of auto work?
This hands-on introductory course is designed for participants with little or no automotive repair experience. Students will learn how to safely work around a vehicle, identify major components, use common automotive tools, and perform basic maintenance tasks. Through demonstrations and guided practice, participants will build foundational skills they can use to maintain their own vehicles and better communicate with professional mechanics when more advanced repairs are needed.

Skills & Topics Covered:

  • Automotive shop and vehicle safety

  • Introduction to common automotive tools and equipment

  • Understanding basic vehicle systems and components

  • Properly lifting and supporting a vehicle

  • Checking and changing engine oil and oil filters

  • Checking essential fluids and understanding fluid levels

  • Checking and adjusting tire pressure

  • Inspecting tires for wear, damage, and safe tread depth

  • Safely changing a flat tire and installing a spare

  • Emergency preparedness

  • Basic troubleshooting and knowing when to seek professional help

Participants will leave with a foundational understanding of automotive maintenance, practical hands-on skills, and the confidence to safely perform common routine tasks and recognize when a repair requires professional assistance.

Appropriate for students aged 12+. Ages of 12-17 must be accompanied by an adult.
